Founded in 1926, the Crag Rats is the oldest mountain search and rescue organization in the United States. Based in Oregon's Hood River Valley, the all-volunteer Rats conduct operations on Mount Hood as well as the Columbia River Gorge and surrounding areas. The Crag Rats are a charter member of the Mountain Rescue Association.
TOBY BLANCK
May 26, 1973 - March 18, 2007
Toby tragically passed away March 18th in a swimming accident in Tucson, AZ. His issues were complicated by the fact that, unbeknownst to anyone, he had severe coronary artery disease, with 90% blockage in one artery and 80% blockage in two other arteries.
Toby was remembered at Ursinus College on October 7th, 2007 were a tree was planted outside Omwake House in his honor.
Toby was posthumously awarded a Life Time Achievement Award at the Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Co. on June 1, 2007.
MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR TOBY WERE HELD IN LOS ANGELES ON APRIL 28th, 2007, IN HOOD RIVER, OREGON ON SATURDAY APRIL 14th, IN NEW YORK CITY ON MONDAY APRIL 2nd, 2007 AND IN TUCSON, ARIZONA ON FRIDAY MARCH 23rd, 2007.
